Technology is a part of our daily routines. They make life much easier for us, allow us to communicate faster and even provide entertainment. Although the use of technology can be beneficial to you and your kids, they also have their downsides. This is especially seen in todayís children.
So what are these negative effects that technology or gadgets have on our children?

Health Concerns

There are a lot of concerns that arises when it comes to childrenís health and technology. Most kids nowadays prefer virtual entertainment like computer games and television shows instead of engaging in sports and physical games. Because of this, most kids spend their time rooted infront of their game console, computer or television for hours, with less time for physical activities.

This often leads to obesity, which is becoming rampant among modern children. Oftentimes, most of us donít realize that our kids are becoming overweight because weíre getting used to seeing overweight children. Kids with lifestyles that involve less and less physical activities are prone to developing diseases like hypertension, diabetes and many other ailments when they become older.

Academic And Mental Concerns

Like every part of your body, the brain needs to be exercised to sharpen ones mental capacity. Modern kids nowadays, rely on the internet or their gadgets to get instant answers. They no longer take time to view a problem and try to solve it using their heads. Critical thinking often fails to develop, since most answers are spoon fed to them.

A lot of kids nowadays also lose the ability to concentrate on one thing. They become used to the idea of multi tasking with their gadgets, that they lose the ability to focus. Without focus, studying becomes difficult.

Instant Gratification

Since they often get the answers instantly from the internet, kids nowadays also expect their peers and other people to give them such reactions as well. Kids who have grown up in this type of environment often end up becoming lazy and impatient.

Social Concerns

It may be true that you can be connected with a lot of people through the internet. Kids can communicate with their friends without being physically there. However, this can have a negative impact on your kidsí social skills if they only meet friends on the internet and have less time communicating in person.

Since they are not communicating in person, it is often hard for kids to establish real friendship with people they meet. They also fail to develop the basic skills of communicating emotionally through different cues like body language, tone of voice and other social communication skills.

Concerns On Violence

A lot of television shows nowadays are poor models for your kids, as well as video games. TV shows have adult contents and violence that may be too early for children to be exposed too, especially if theyíre watching these shows without adult supervision. Also, most video games nowadays are centered on violent themes like characters fighting other characters or games that handles fake guns and involves killing other characters in the virtual sense.
You wonít be surprised to find out that there is an increase in the rate of violent crimes involving young adults or an increase in murder cases.

Family concerns ñ family ties also suffer from negative effects of technology and gadgets on kids. A lot of kids nowadays would rather spend time watching TV or playing computer games than spend some quality time with their parents. In turn, parents also find it hard to relate to what their kids are doing nowadays.

Technology is a great tool in daily living and can in fact make life easier. However, too much of it can also be a great disadvantage for your kids. You should help them balance it out and always try to supervise what they are getting exposed to from games and media.

How to Get Your Kids to Like School

Kids need to go to school in order learn different things. They will learn not only academic stuffs, but also things like establishing social relationships, having fun, joining sports, etc. However, what do you do if your child does not like going to school?

If you attend school activities with your kids or often visit them in the classroom, you will get to know their classmates. You can try to find someone that you think would become a good company for your child. Try to get to know the child and the guardian, and invite the child for play dates with your kid.

This can help your kids establish a social relationship and is quite helpful, especially for young children. If they make friends, they will most likely want to go to school.

Donít Fret Too Much About Grades

We all want our kids to get good grades in school. However, try not to fret about it too much. If you put too much pressure on your kid about getting high marks, this can turn off their interest in school. Try to follow up on your childís grades if it seems that theyíre not doing that good, but never demand overwhelming tasks or make grades the sole focus. Allow them to enjoy their school life as well.

There are times when your child may find their homework difficult and will need your help. You can give them some guidance and help them understand the problems. However, never solve the answers yourself. Help them realize what they need to learn and allow them to develop independence.
